Frequently Asked Questions

Our Pilates studio is here to clear all your queries and doubts.

If you don’t see your answers, feel free to reach our Pilates Hong Kong studio through the direct chat option.

Where did Pilates originate from?

Before you book a class at Pilates studio Hong Kong, you need to learn the history behind this form of exercise.

Pilates was introduced by Joseph Pilates (the name Pilates), a German carpenter and gymnast. While he was in England, he devised an exercise plan that helped to heal the wounded dancers and soldiers in the country. He upheld the belief that physical and mental health are closely connected. In the 1920s, he immigrated to the US and built his Pilates studio in New York. Pilates named his unique exercise methodology as “Contrology.”

To this date, Pilates is practiced all around the globe, especially in countries like Australia, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

What's the difference between Pilates and Yoga?

Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that is a combination of deep breathing and gentle stretching. It is designed to optimize muscular strength and improve postural alignment. By focusing on strengthening the body’s core and the small muscle groups that we don’t normally activate, the exercise brings flexibility and improvement in body movement.

Pilates also bolster the connection between your mind and body. While performing all those exercises on Pilates reformer, Pilates Trapeze Table, Ladder Barrel, or Wunda Chair, your mind needs to be aware of your breathing and how your body moves.

In short, a simple Pilates class can improve your general fitness while also boosting your overall well-being. Pilates carries less risk of injury than other more intense workouts.

Although Pilates in Hong Kong may sound like a form of yoga, there is a major difference between them. Pilates is more of a physical activity that tones the muscles and improves movement, whereas yoga boosts your spiritual well-being.

Which areas of the body does Pilates target?

Pilates is explicitly directed at the core of your body, including your spinal and abdominal area. If you are suffering from lower back pain, the Pilates class and exercise might relieve the pain.

The thighs, buttocks, and legs are also active participants of Pilates. The Pilates class or workout not only strengthens the muscles in these parts of the body but is also helpful in reducing arthritis pain. By increasing the flexibility in your joint muscles, it diminishes the pain in the knees as well

Due to Pilates’s high-end benefits, it is recommended for people recovering from hip or knee replacement or who have multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia.

Moderate exercise, like Pilates in Hong Kong, is said to help maintain physical fitness to fulfil the demand for birth-giving and motherhood better. Be sure to seek your doctor’s opinion before enrolling in a Pilates reformer class.

What are the benefits of Pilates?

Are you wondering why you should become a part of a Pilates HK class?

O:RIN Pilates studio Hong Kong aims to grasp the true concept of the exercise. The Pilates Hong Kong classes at O:RIN brings you immense health benefits such as

  •  Improved flexibility
  •  Pilates is focused on the core of your body. This involves your abdominal muscles, lower back, hips, and buttock (the ‘core muscles’ of your body). Regular Pilates in Hong Kong gives you a flat stomach and a perfect body.
  •  Balanced muscular strength on both sides of your body
  •  Pilates HK classes strengthen your muscles as the exercise involves muscles that are usually inactive. If you live a restful life moving your muscles is a good way of remaining healthy.
  •  By placing your body in proper alignment, Pilates in Hong Kong improves your posture. This further leads to preventing lower back pain.
  •  Pilates class or exercise also improves the balance between your mind and body. By making your mind aware of your body movement, not only help you gain a good posture but also restore your mind-body connection.
  •  Pilates reformer in Hong Kong or any exercise is always a good way of releasing all that piled-up stress. And Pilates is just equal in this regard. You feel at ease when your body takes those deep breaths and your muscles stretch.
Which forms of Pilates do you offer?

Going to a Pilates HK class, you will have varied choices to perform the exercise. Mat-based Pilates or Equipment-based Pilates, which offers Pilates reformer, Pilates Trapeze Table, Ladder Barrel, or Wunda Chair.

Mat-based Pilates Class

This Pilates Hong Kong class is a series of exercises performed on the floor using a mat. The combination of gravity and body weight provides resistance during Pilates. The main aim of this Pilates class is to condition the deeper, supporting muscles of your body which leads to improving posture, balance, and coordination.

Reformer-based Pilates Class

If you want to have fun, try out the Pilates reformer class. For example, during a Pilates reformer class, you have to perform exercise moves on a sliding platform with a stationary foot bar, springs, and pulleys. This complete Pilates reformer Hong Kong setup provides resistance during the exercise.

In this Pilates HK class, your muscles pull against the pressure of springs and brands. The aim of the Pilates reformer class is to concentrate on your breath and strengthen the right muscles. Pilates Reformer class is beneficial for someone recovering from an injury as it involves gentle stretching, and only slight resistant force is used.

Equipment-based Pilates Class

Once you get the hang of things, like after Pilates reformer in Hong Kong, you will be introduced to other equipment that makes Pilates HK more interesting. Some important tools you may find in any Pilates Studio Hong Kong include a Wunda Chair, a low chair with padding and springs, and, more importantly, the Pilates Trapeze Table or Ladder Barrel.

Pilates Trapeze Table is a huge piece of equipment and consists of a bed with a mat. The three-sided frame goes on the top and is attached to the bed frame. Being 6 feet tall, it has various apparatus attached, such as leg and arm springs, loops for hanging, and a push-through bar. Having a trapeze can make Pilates in Hong Kong thrilling for you. However, due to the size of the equipment, they are only used in private Pilates HK classes. Also, you will need to find a Pilates Hong Kong studio offering such private classes.

Dedicated to all the women of O:RIN ❤️
A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly, and I am so lucky to have a team who goes above and beyond to do this. Even when I take time off to travel, I know that the studio is in capable hands.
You are the one holding up this studio! On International Women’s Day (and every other day too!) I hope you know how much I appreciate everything you do.
Love,
Karen x

From rendering to reality 😍
Designing each studio is a bit like giving birth to a new baby for us 😆 The process is something we deeply enjoy, from concept stage, to choosing every single pattern, tile, fabric, furniture and more.
It’s so satisfying to see it come to life and once it’s done we always feel like doing it all over again!

I tried Classical Pilates in Vancouver last month 😊
What we often practice in the studio these days is Contemporary Pilates, which incorporates modern knowledge of the body. Many exercises are influenced by physical therapy and have been modified to accommodate injury rehabilitation.
Classical Pilates stays close to Joseph Pilates’ original work. Exercises are taught in way that he developed them and in exactly the same order too.
I definitely think Classical Pilates isn’t easy to understand and follow, but it was fun to explore new things. Have you try Classical Pilates before, share your experience with us below. 🤗
